Important Note about prescription drugs and 'without prescription'
The following information is intended to supplement, not substitute for, the expertise and
judgment of your physician, pharmacist or other healthcare professional.
It should not be construed to indicate that use of the drug is safe, appropriate, or
effective for you. Consult your healthcare professional before using this drug.

Uses of Propoxyphene and Acetaminophen (Darvon, Darvocet and Deprancol)
Opioid analgesics including propoxyphene, reduce pain by blocking the receptors in the
brain that are involved in the perception (sensing) of pain. Because combinations of
opioids (such as propoxyphene and either aspirin or acetaminophen produce additive
pain relieving effects, they are often found in combination in drugs, including Darvon,
Darvocet and Deprancol. These pain medications are used to relieve muscular, traumatic
and postoperative pain, odontalgia, postpartum pain and in chronic or recurrent processes
such as arthritis, herniated discs, sciatica, herpes zoster, neoplasm and dysmenorrhea.

Darvon Abuse and Dependence
Propoxyphene can be abused as a recreational drug due to the euphoric effects
experienced when taken with alcohol, it can become addictive and lead to serious side
effects. When Propoxyphene is taken in higher-than-recommended doses over long
periods of time, can produce psychic drug dependence and, less frequently, physical dependence and tolerance.

Side effects of Propoxyphene and Acetaminophen
The most frequently reported are dizziness, sedation, nausea, and vomiting.
Other adverse reactions include constipation, abdominal pain, skin rashes, lightheadedness, headache, weakness, euphoria, dysphoria, hallucinations, and
minor visual disturbances. Liver dysfunction has been reported in association with both active components of propoxyphene napsylate and acetaminophen tablets.
This is not a full list of potential side effects - consult your doctor.

Precautions and Drug Interactions
Propoxyphene combinations should not be taken with MAOI anti-depressants and for
two weeks after they have been stopped. Excess drowsiness will result when taken
together with other drugs that have a sedative effect on the central nervous system
such as: alcohol, insomnia drugs, antidepressants and antihistamines.
Some deaths have occurred as a consequence of taking excessive quantities of
propoxyphene alone or in combination with other drugs.
Do NOT exceed the dosage recommended by a physician.
